Discover the Art of Wildlife Photography – Winter Magic at Bempton

Ready to unlock the secrets of wildlife photography at one of the UK's most breathtaking coastal locations? Join me, Ali Marley, for an unforgettable day capturing the winter wildlife of RSPB Bempton Cliffs!

Bempton Cliffs doesn’t go quiet in winter — it just changes. The gannets and guillemots have moved on for the season, but there’s a different kind of magic here: owls hunting low along the clifftop, tree sparrows working the hedgerows, and on a good day, dolphins down below.

This workshop is a chance to broaden out from bird photography into wildlife photography more generally, and it’s designed to stand entirely on its own — whether you’ve been to one of my seabird workshops before or this is your very first time with me.

We’ll start indoors in the Nestbox with tea, biscuits, and a relaxed classroom session covering: Camera settings and reading your histogram Composition and using winter’s clean, muted light Techniques for birds in flight, from the slow deliberate glide of an owl to the fast, erratic movement of a tree sparrow A look at editing, bringing out what’s already there in a winter shot

Then we’ll head out onto the cliffs to put it all into practice, watching the skies, the hedgerows, and the sea, in search of whatever winter puts in front of us that day.

What to bring: • Your camera (any camera works, though DSLR or mirrorless is ideal) • A telephoto lens if you have one (but don’t worry if you don’t!) • Weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear – we’re on the cliffs! • Your sense of adventure and a readiness to be amazed
